About the event

Bob Bedell is a singer-songwriter out of Pittsboro, NC, who writes with an eclectic style of alternative Americana pulling from blues, rock, alt-country, and folk. Bob explores musical discourse through various acoustic themes from the alluring and simplistic, to the serious and inane, and sometimes he just cuts loose and goes wide open! Listen closely and you may hear how songs can feel like a memory.  Bedell is currently working on his first solo recordings, after 4 decades of playing in full bands. Bob started writing songs in the mid-70s continuing with several bands through the 80s, one (the Unitz) traveled the Southeastern states playing College towns on campus and in clubs. The Unitz (based in Knoxville, Tn) shared the stage with many “famous” groups, and even got to headline the new Grand Ole Opry and record at Ardent Studios in Memphis. Bob left his college band a few years after graduating from college and started an acoustic duo called Catbird Seat in Atlanta, Ga. The acoustic music scene was just starting to explode in the late 80s and early 90s, centered around a local Decatur bartender named Eddie Owens (Eddie’s Attic and Eddie Owens Presents at Red Clay Music Foundry) Catbird Seat played as a duo, trio, and full band until 2017 with 7 CDs and compilations to share. Catbird Seat was lucky enough to play many great venues like, Eddie's Attic, Bluebird Cafe, and Club Passim to name a few that are still some of the top clubs in the country.  Bob was able to really grow as a songwriter during this time. In 2019, Bedell made the decision to start playing by himself. Now living in North Carolina since the early 90s, he was asked to open for Nikki Meets the Hibachi from Chapel Hill, NC. They played several shows in Virginia and North Carolina together. Playing solo was a difficult task for someone who had played in rock bands and acoustic rock bands for 4 decades. Fast forward to 2023, after retiring from teaching in 2022, Bedell is now concentrating on his solo songwriting and shows. He is especially happy with the reactions of the audience and their responses to his diverse original material. In a recent radio interview, it was said that Bob's music allows the audience to "walk through the song and it becomes a part of them", allowing them to insert their own story into the song. The working title to Bob’s first recording sessions is called “SONGS THAT SOUND LIKE A MEMORY”.  Going to new places, meeting new people, sharing with other songwriters and bands allows this passion to grow into new stories and experiences to add in the songwriting notebooks. Bob is always ready to meet new folks or visit with old friends. He has shared the stage with some incredible musicians: local heroes to international superstars. Come on out and share an evening with Bob Bedell. You can check out some of his music at bobbedellmusic.com. Stop in, say hello, stay a while and listen - Good Music, Good Friends, and Good Vibes!
