About the event

Jess Klein / Jonathan Byrd / Lakota John

Residency at The Plant continues as their 'Wednesday Concert Series' featuring my guests, who are talented singer songwriters, “in- the-round. “ They will knock your socks off, and, if you are an aspiring singer-song writer yourself, they will kindly share their tricks of the trade in a special Q&A before the performance. Doors open at 6. Q&A at 6:30 and performance starts at 7.

Jess Klein began writing songs as a college student in Jamaica and is known for staking out

brave lyrical and musical territory. Ever looking to evolve creatively, Jess spent eight years

soaking up the live music culture of Austin, TX and later moved with husband and songwriter

Mike June to Hillsborough where she recorded “Back to My Green” in 2019. American UK

raved, “When bluesy, gospel-infused fires can be found in the same broad church as soothing,

maternal words to the wise, then here is a singer-songwriter who has found not only her place

in the world, but also one for those new arrivals on the scene to look up to. Jess has toured

across the U.S., Europe and Japan and has appeared on Good Morning America and NPR’s All

Things Considered. Her new album is currently in production and due out in 2023.

Jonathan Byrd is a preacher’s kid, Gulf War veteran, and award-winning songwriter with

a near-cult following. With twenty plus years of touring and over a dozen albums, Byrd’s

deceptively simple, working-class songs have become campfire standards and crowd

favorites for artists like Sam Bush and Tim O’Brien. A Jonathan Byrd show will take

audiences on a journey from hell-raising sing-alongs to heart-wrenching ballads and

back across the backroads of his native North Carolina.

A lifelong collaborator and innovator, Jonathan Byrd’s latest project is Song Miners, a

project to not only write and release new songs, but also to teach others how it’s done.

Leading powerful online songwriting workshops and creating free songwriting

education for social media, Byrd seems on a mission to fill the world with great songs-

not least, his own. Not to be missed.

His voice is powerful and raspy in the tradition of the old bluesmen.

and his indigenous heritage with the Native American flute

John and Kin released a self titled album. In 2017 Lakota John released a solo album, called
