Have you ever heard a songwriter play an amazing song at their show and wish you could ask how they came to write it? The songwriters who play the First Wednesday series at The Plant will likely answer your question, and they might ask you one in return.

Come to The Plant in Pittsboro on August 2nd to hear amazing songs and get to know the artists who wrote them.

This month's special guests are Barry Gray and matthew phillips.

Barry Gray:

Barry Gray has been the secret ingredient in every band he’s been in for years, but more recently he’s revealed himself as a master songwriter and solo performer. His songs are at once deeply personal and universally engaging, with a keen eye for detail and irresistible melody and groove. Barry was awarded the NC Arts Council Songwriting Scholarship 2017, and he used that money to record his first album Footsteps, released in 2018.

Matt Phillips:

matt phillips's biography reads thusly: "future blues. twangy funk. americana upd8"

Come to The Plant and matt will unpack that for you.

Wes Collins:

At age 44, Wes Collins and his wife Anita made a pact to become writers: she started writing fiction and Wes penned his first song. A few years later, they were both multi-award-winners in their fields. Collins more than makes up for lost time with songs that dig deep and go to uncertain, sometimes scary places. Come for a haunting melody and some intricate fingerpicking and stay for the wit and deep literary intelligence. There is always more to find in a Wes Collins song.
