About the event

In 1994, three years after the Soviet Union dissolved, writer and musician Brenda Linton traveled with a team to Ukraine to help facilitate the country’s transition to a democratic state. On Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 5:30-8:00 pm, Linton will read an essay from her memoir and perform several songs at The Plant in Pittsboro, NC. The reading will be followed by a Q&A session with a panel of experts who worked in Ukraine and Russia in the mid-1990s. The event is free. Information will be provided about making donations to support Ukraine. Linton’s essay, Washed in the Water and the Blood, is a fascinating chronicle of her professional and personal relationships with members of a Ukrainian delegation to Boston and government officials in the City of Kharkiv. Linton’s lyrical writing provides western audiences with a heart-to-heart experience of Ukrainian culture and mores, and demonstrates the resolve of the Ukrainian people to preserve their sovereignty amid Russian aggression.
