Candace Hunziker is a force of nature. She's a newly elected Pittsboro Town Commissioner who wants to change the world. And yes. She has pink hair.
Candace putzes about in AI. This isn't actually a picture of us eradicating--but perhaps it is the future of flyers.
Please Join us on Saturday, February 21st at 10:00 at the Plant--220 Lorax Lane in Pittsboro, for an "Invasive Plant Eradication Day."
Katy from Pittsboro Parks and Rec is loading up on equipment: weed wrenches/lopers/gloves/eye protection for volunteers. The Town of Pittsboro would like you to sign up here. The Tree Museum has equipment to lend to the cause.
Now is our chance to lean into a "citizen powered eradication event." This is a chance for people to learn how to use a weed wrench. To learn the difference between eleangus and privet. Now is our chance to liberate natives, and to release sentinel specimen trees. Now is our chance to let the land inform us on new park design.
We will be meeting at the southernmost point of the Plant--past the fuel terminal--in the woods at the far end of the pavers. We would love lots of people to join this endeavor....

Reading about Eradication Day really made me appreciate the careful planning and tools needed to manage invasive species effectively. It’s incredible how much thought goes into ensuring native ecosystems are protected without causing harm. One thing I’ve realized is that having access to reliable chemical products can make a huge difference in these efforts, providing precise solutions that professionals trust for safe and effective eradication. I’m genuinely fascinated by how science and strategy combine here, and it’s inspired me to learn more about environmentally responsible methods. Do you think these approaches will become standard in more communities?
Reading this made me smile because it feels honest and full of heart. There is something powerful about neighbors showing up with gloves and tools just to protect the land. It gives the day real meaning. It even reminds me of basketball legends as an online game, where everyone plays a role, but here the victory is for nature itself.
