Bargaining by Ali Waller

I created this piece in segments while grieving my best friend Ellen. During that time I made a series of casts of my hands in a prayer position. On one side of the partition is a pair of my hands as they are now. On the other side is a cast of my hands in blood. On the partition itself is a depiction of a crucifix above a Volvo, backed by the saying ‘pater boater’ or ‘our father’ in Latin. My first stage of grief came with the bargain of religion with Ellen’s death being the first time I’ve really had to think- “what comes after this life?”
