Gracias Por Su Visita by Sean McLaughlin

graphite on paper, 8.5 x 5 in
This piece is a drawing of various images that I was drawn to intuitively and collaged together. The skull figure was central, but it wasn't until I added the border of a napkin holder which had the phrase gracias por su visita (thank you for your visit) that I felt this became a piece speaking of death. The ephemeral nature of life and the body viewed as a short stay on a much longer cosmic journey.
