Mriya (Ukrainian for "dream") by Lawrence Feir

Mriya, which means "dream" in Ukrainian, began its journey 14 years ago in a different place and time. My landlord sold the building I was leasing for my studio with only 20 days' notice, forcing me to relocate. As a result, progress on my current project came to a halt and was largely forgotten, left to deteriorate until I found inspiration to finish it, despite having moved it multiple times over the years. 
 
 Over the past decade, I have focused on creating kinetic works, and Mriya is no exception. The piece is adorned in the colors of the Ukrainian flag: azure blue and bright yellow, but with the colors reversed to metaphorically represent the current situation in the country. 
 
 Mriya is dedicated to all the lives lost at the hands of the Russian military and to the hopes and dreams of the survivors.
