Encaustic Wax & Mixed Media
These works explore grief and remembrance through the materials of memory: photographs, botanical forms, paper, wax, and fragments of lived experience. I am interested in the way loss alters our relationship to objects, places, and the natural world, and how these remnants can become vessels for both mourning and celebration. Encaustic wax binds the work together physically and symbolically. It preserves and obscures at once, allowing images to surface, recede, and reappear much like memory itself. Botanical forms evoke cycles of growth, decay, and renewal, while photographic fragments suggest the people and histories we continue to carry with us. Rather than treating grief as absence alone, these pieces consider what remains: traces, stories, gestures, inherited materials, and the living world around us. Through layering, preservation, and transformation, the work becomes an act of honoring—holding space for loss while recognizing the enduring connections through which a life continues to be remembered.
