"Flower Power"
$1,200

"Flower Power"  is a large display of multiple flower heads made from vintage cast iron rotary cultivator wheels, with the center of the flower made from vintage faucet knobs. The stems are made from 3/4" solid round steel bar stock and bent in a hydraulic press to obtain their unique shape.  The combination of the spiral flower heads and bends in the stems are similar to the trees in The Lorax.  The base is a large tractor wheel weight that weighs 130 lbs.

The tallest flower is about 7 feet high and the diameter of the sculpture is about 3 feet.  Total weight in the 300-350 lb range.  The photo is from a past project and for reference. The plan for this version is to have flower heads pointing 360 degrees instead of all pointing in the same direction like the example. This would be better for viewing in a public space. It could be installed on a concrete pad, or a dirt or gravel base.  Due to the weight, It will be built so the flower stems and heads can be separated from each other and from the base but still securely attached.  This one will just be bigger and more stable than the image shown, for use in a public space.

"The piece, although made from industrial salvage, blends well into nature due to the unique curves and shapes of the parts used in construction. Some say the flowers look like the trees in The Lorax, and I've also taken inspiration from the unique Boojum trees of Baja California."

John Flack is a Pittsboro NC based artist and craftsman. "I like repurposing industrial salvage into lamps, tables, animal sculptures, flowers and other works of art.  I also do woodworking,  including mixed metal and woodworking projects."
