Hometown Gladiolus

Hometown Gladiolus
12' tall x 6' wide x 6' deep. 150lbs. Stainless Steel. Eventually, if installed permanently in a public space, this sculpture would need to be bolted down to keep it safe from theft or high winds and so would need a cement pad that can be drilled into to add the bolts - for the short term display it can be safely staked down into dirt or grass for the duration of the art show.
$14,500
This sculpture, "Hometown Gladiolus", is a much larger version of a sculpture that I have made for private garden spaces in the past, but in this case I have scaled it up to be more public-art friendly. I made it specifically for this art show, since it will be featured in my home town of Pittsboro and have a chance to be permanently installed here. While I have public art installed all over the country, I have yet to place one here in my hometown, and would love the opportunity - hence the title of the sculpture "Hometown Gladiolus". My hope is that the sculpture brings a neighborly welcome to viewers and enhances the friendly small town feel of Pittsboro.
"Creating beautiful, sculptural flowers, butterflies, and garden scenes is my specialty and passion, and I’m motivated by a genuine love of flora and fauna. Nature is my muse and I enjoy making pieces inspired by it, working with its inherent beauty, but always allowing for creative twists along the way.
My sculptures are made from 100% stainless steel and as such, the pieces are highly weather resistant, lending themselves perfectly to outdoor installations. The process for creating the colors involves heat-treating techniques on the stainless steel and involves no chemicals whatsoever.
First, I research my subjects for anatomical accuracy, then, with skill, several well-kept sculpting secrets, and 6,000 degrees of heat, I bend and shape the flat stainless steel into lifelike sculptures - grinding, cutting, welding and polishing to create textures on the surface. After this intricate process, I carefully heat the steel with a torch to naturally bring out the vibrant colors that are inherent to stainless steel, including cobalt blues, burnished bronzes, and deep burgundies.
The combination of creativity and these distinctive techniques ensures each finished piece of art is exquisite and unique. The beautiful colors are permanent - so little to no maintenance is required - therefore the sculptures are appropriate for display both inside and out.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Appalachian State University and nearly 20 years of sculpting experience. My work is exhibited in galleries and public art venues throughout the country. Having had the pleasure of sculpting for both public and private art venues, I love participating in the beautiful nuances of how art of any scale can shape a location."
