Industrial Oaf: Lifting Instability is one in a series of sculptures focusing on forms derived from heavy construction equipment. Lifting Instability references the many massive tower cranes looming over many expanding cities. These tower cranes are icons of growth and upward movement. For as much as these machines are icons of their own, they are a symbol for the thousands of human beings that labor underneath them. The human labor needed in construction work is often dismissed as simple, menial, or unskilled, valuing the machines of industry over the efforts of the individuals. In this way Industrial Oaf: Lifting Instability appears to teater on collapse without the human presence.
