Kevin Eichner pairs industry with nature. In his labored process of cutting, bending and twisting
the I-beam he highlights the liveliness of a material often associated with only toughness and rigidity.
Fronds grow into branches; the tree bends in the wind; a human figure emerges as a dancer.
Eichner’s ‘Modus Vivendi’ might suggest to some viewers the Roman myth of the nymph Daphne
escaping Apollo’s desirous touch by changing into a tree.”

"My work evolves from the stiff, rigid, industrial I-beam, an icon of the 20th century, used in the construction of vast bridges and towering skyscrapers. As a sculptor I seek to reveal the truth of the materials and to discover ways to stretch and manipulate that truth bringing forth its potential in new ways. I have discovered the breath within the beams, how the rigidness unfolds, the beams gesturing towards the sky, blossoming, intertwining and celebrating both human nature and Mother Nature within the individual beams."

"I was born and raised in Buffalo NY, in the shadows of Bethlehem Steel, focusing on the fine arts in high school and receiving a BFA at Buffalo State College. I moved to NC 1994 and continued my creative career at East Carolina University and a 2000sf two bedroom kitchenette with full functioning wood shop and metal shop in Greenville, NC.
In the early 2000’s I was adjuncting at various colleges and universities in New York and North Carolina, and 5 years teaching the metals program for the Sculpture degree at CCCC.
In 2004 I was invited the be the Visiting Artist at theMMoA in Moncure.
During my residency I was twisting beams, pouring metal, teaching classes and fabricating commercial/residential metalworkings.
I’ve traveled from New Mexico to Estonian building and casting iron, with a day of molten metal on the sidewalks of Soho. My artwork is in numerous public and private collections thru out the Carolina’s and Upstate New York. My custom works can be seen throughout the triangle and the Bahamas.
I’m currently the Resident/Artist and Executive Director of theMMoA with dreams and visions of rebuilding the Ol’Moncure School and embracing the creative arts for our community."
