Karen Dinato is a fruit tree expert. She operates Nurtured by Nature Growers, which is on a mission to get people growing their own fruit.
She came out and grafted a bunch of pear varieties to the stump of the Bradford Pear we executed in the yard. The idea is that its invasive Bradford nature has been eliminated, but that its 25 year old root system will happily contribute to the growth of new grafted varieties.
What was supposed to happen at our One Year Gala is now done. Thank you Karen.
Tommorow is Pittsboro's first Arbor Day, with a tree planting event at the courthouse at 10:00. Thank you Reginald for pushing this rock up the hill for all this time. Next step is to pass a tree ordinance to protect what remaining canopy we have on the south side of town.
At 11:00 at the south gate of the Plant, the Tree Museum Rewilding squad rolls again. Destination: the Champion Black Walnut that the Grand Trees of Chatham discovered in what will be Pittsboro's new park on the other side of the fence. Join us for either, or both events.
In other news we have filed Articles of Incorporation with the Secretary of State to become a non-profit. Things are moving. Momentum is building. More and more people are showing up and joining the conversation.
To say nothing of Arlo's Tree Museum movie. He's a finalist in the NC Climate Justice 4Rs Indie Film Fest at the Full Frame Theatre in Durham Sunday night. Wild. See you there?
If we were a rocket standing on the launch pad, I think it would be fair to say, "We have ignition..."

Exciting!!
