Taylor Hobbs is a renowned local architect.
When he was serving on the board of the Chatham Arts Council in 2017 he commissioned this piece. It's in the yard of his office at 159 W. Salisbury Street in Pittsboro--across from St. Barts.
It was created by Hamidou Sissoko. Taylor has known Hamidou since their kids were little, so Taylor asked him to create and install the piece.
The venus fly trap plant is native only to North and South Carolina. It is a carnivorous plant that will "snap shut" on prey.
Presumably the fly depicted in the sculpture will not be long for this world.
Hamidou will be installing two pieces: Happiness, and Queen of Flowers at the Plant's Sculpture Celebration on September 20th.
