The Eastern Edge

Today I had the privilege of attending The Local Church service that was held in the field at Little Pond Gardens @ the Plant.
It was at the end of a Pride Festival crushing weekend--sort of like a "Closing Ceremony."
While there was a lot to take in and think about, I have to say that I was pleased by the invasive plants eradication effort that has occurred along the eastern edge of that field.
From where I was sitting by the tent, it was the first time I could see the trunks of trees--unfettered by elaeagnus, privet, and multiflora rose.
Dumpsters of plant material have been removed from the scene--mechanically. We don't deploy chemicals in our eradication efforts. The endeavor is changing the sight lines, light patterns, and the ecology of that part of the property. "Wow, I never knew that was a walnut tree..."
The Tree Museum is working with Rachel's Native Plants on getting signage installed on specimen trees around the Plant. I think the "Eastern Edge" has some promising candidates--now visible from a long way away. Once we get our mulching and signage game right, the Tree Museum is going to spill over from its fenced field into those trees that have survived all of the pressures of growing at the Plant and become adult trees...
