Murals of Pittsboro

Updated: Apr 30, 2024

There’s a new kid in town.  Thomas Begley, former art teacher, just moved to Pittsboro from Vermont.  He came down to the Plant where I work because he wanted to do a mural.

That’s how this began.  Looks like I’m back into another mural project.

Thomas and I have been going around and around about murals for months, and when we bumped into the topic of the other murals in Pittsboro, this writing project began.

What started as a text to Thomas, lead to a trip to Circle City Book and Music to learn something about the provenance of the bookshelf on the wall.  Then another visit.  Out comes the camera. Enter the rabbit hole.

My “Letter to Thomas,” became a file—maybe more like a dossier.  That’s what this is.  It’s a dossier for Thomas. Giving him some background, some dates and some stories about the artists and the murals of Pittsboro.

All errors and omissions are mine. Here's the list as I see it:

I absolutely love this post! Pittsboro has such a vibrant arts scene, and these murals bring so much life and color to the community. Doing a self-guided mural crawl around The Plant is one of my favorite weekend activities. Quick tip for anyone planning a day trip out there: after walking around and grabbing an iced latte, if you just want to sit on a bench, soak in the sun, and relax while your friends are taking photos, open up minigame on your phone. They have some super fun, casual puzzles that are perfect for a chill afternoon break. Thanks for putting together this beautiful guide to our local art!

The game Basketball Stars also has realistic animations and stunning graphics. An immersive experience is enhanced by the court designs, ball physics, and character movements. Basketball Stars effectively conveys the thrill of actual basketball games when paired with upbeat music effects.
